Donaldson Field General Manager Danny Moyd has been named 2021 General Aviation Manager of the Year by the FAA’s Southern Region Airports Division. The award is presented each year to an individual who “exemplifies excellence in airport management.”

Located at SCTAC, Donaldson Field (GYH) is the state’s largest general aviation airport encompassing 1,400 acres. Operated as a service of SCTAC and under the sponsorship of the City of Greenville and Greenville County, the airport is the Global Home of the Lockheed Martin F-16. Lockheed Martin manufactures and maintains F-16 fighter jets on a mega-site directly adjacent to Donaldson Field. The airport also serves as an important hub for cargo air freight and serves as an aircraft production, maintenance and modification center providing everything from major repairs to routine inspections. Other airport uses include air charters, hangar and tie-down rental, flight lessons, pilot, and aircraft supplies.

SCTAC President and CEO Jody Bryson said, “The significant achievements that Danny and his team consistently produce at Donaldson Field are evidence that this award is hard-earned and well deserved.” Moyd also holds the title of Chief Operations Officer at SCTAC.

In 2018, the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission (SCAC) issued a report showing that Donaldson Field led the state in economic impact among general aviation airports. It is believed this distinction remains firm today. The report estimated Donaldson Field’s annual economic impact at $522.41 million, derived from employment, payroll, and total spending. Direct and indirect employment at Donaldson Field is estimated at 1,874 with an annual payroll of $129.3 million. Total annual spending from airport activities is $393.1 million.

The award was presented at a ceremony held September 12 at SCTAC.
